COP26 kicks off

On Sunday, October 31, 2021, the COP26 Climate Summit begins, which will last at least two weeks. As we already know, the acronym COP refers to the Conference of the Parties, that is, the members of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), a treaty that dates back to 1992 and is supported by 197 world governments. This summit is preceded by an original campaign starring Frankie, the velociraptor dinosaur, speaking at the UN Assembly: “Don’t choose extinction”, #DontChooseExtinction. Click here to learn more about this campaign. Do you want to see the video? It will be held in Glasgow, Scotland, and comes after a 2020 without negotiations due to the covid-19 pandemic, so it is expected to be a crucial meeting to reach the long-awaited international agreements that reduce CO2 emissions.

This time it is up to Scotland to assume the presidency, a rotating position each year between the five continents of the planet, although sometimes the country is not held president due to security or lack of infrastructure. Enter this UN website to learn more.
